Glossary
For the translation of most Dutch words, your standard online translation tool will suffice. There are however specific terms that aren't that straightforward. Those can be found here. (If you ever find yourself wondering what a certain word means, contact us and we'll update this list)
- Acco: bookstore for course and office materials, becoming a member will grant you reductions
- Alma: student restaurant
- BOKU: short for "Bouwkunde"; department of civil engineering
- C300: the campus of mechanical engineering
- Cantus: traditional student activity with songs and drinks, very recommended
- Cursusdienst/Cudi: VTK bookstore, almost all of your books are available here
- De Lijn: Flemish bus company (public transport)
- De Moete: sandwich bar on the 200 campus
- 't ElixIr: VTK fakbar
- ESAT: deparment of electrical engineering
- Euro: the Belgian valuta
- Fablab: Fabrication Laboratory (3D printer, laser cutter, woodworking tools, ...), located at C300
- Fakbar: a bar run by a student union, the cheapest way to go out (don't forget your student card!)
- Heverlee: part of Leuven south of the ringway
- Leuven: the city you're studying in (of course)
- NMBS: Belgian Rail (public transport)
- Oude Markt: square in the centre of Leuven, also known as the longest bar counter in the world
- Pintje: 25cl of beer (to order: raise your pinkie)
- Stella: Belgian beer brand, the brewery is in Leuven
- Studentenwijk Arenberg: student apartment blocks in the Arenberg park (Heverlee)
- TD: a party
- Theokot: VTK sandwich bar, home of Cudi
- Toledo: online communication board of the university, all information about your courses can be found here
- Vélo: organisation where you can rent a bike, also dialect for "bike"
- VTK: student union of the Faculty of Engineering Science
