Mechanical Engineering - Opto-mechatronics engineer
With the rise of the high-tech industry, so rises the demand for high-performance optical systems. The functioning of an optical system highly depends on the mechanical design and any electronics used. This means proper understanding of these interactions and using this to your advantage is of crucial importance for optimal system performance. Therefore you, as an opto-mechatronics engineer, will be responsible for designing systems that combine these three fields: optical, mechanical and electronical engineering. You will be involved in the entire design process starting with defining requirements, conceptual design, detailed (CAD) design, prototyping, qualification, testing and finally releasing for production. During this process you will use multi-disciplinary skills including understanding optical design, applying constructional design principles, considering dynamics and thermodynamics, considering design for manufacturing, working in a team and customer interaction.
